Bi Kidude is a living legend on her home island of Zanzibar, and has beguiled audiences around the world on her wide and varied travels. A favourite of sultans, presidents, and sailors, her story is remarkable, challenging our perception of age (she's ninety three, going on sixteen), and of women in a Muslim society. To see her up close in her humble home then out on the town, smoking and flirting is a unique experience. As Old As My Tongue has been filmed over three years in Zanzibar and on tour with Bi Kidude. The soundtrack features a specially commissioned soundscape by co-producer Rita Ray and featuring a hundred years of classical Indian Ocean vibes. We are currently in production for the first in a series of documentary portraits looking at how Sudanese women are striving for greater involvement in efforts to build peace. Women from different regions of Sudan, representing a range of ethnic traditions and heritages, will talk about their lives and explore their ideas. For all their differences they have much in common: all survived the war with enough emotional strength to work towards reconstructing their society. Twenty-one years of civil war and the recent peace agreement provide the context for these stories. The portraits will explore and highlight shared beliefs and aspirations across groups who until recently perceived each other as different, or even as enemies. They are now united by a shared aim for a common cause- peace.

Reel Lives is an on going collaboration between Music for Change and Screenstation to produce a series of films bringing world cultures into UK primary schools. To be used as a teaching resource, the project aims to create awareness and understanding between young people in Britain and different parts of the world. The interactive DVD is accompanied by a booklet and resource folder containing a wealth of creative classroom ideas, complete with images, stories, games, fact files and web links. Each
year a different part of the world will be focused on, enabling a global
thread to be part of each school's work and linking it to the national
curriculum through history, geography, music and citizenship. As well
as benefiting schools in the UK, the project will also aim to be a catalyst
for positive arts activities in the overseas communities.
